All to play for against AFC Telford on Saturday.

That must be the message that goes out to both players and fans after the very exciting, at times controversial, but ultimately disappointing results on Saturday and Tuesday.

It was a shame to see Barnet go out of the FA Cup but it may be a blessing in disguise in terms of the league. When Barnet went 2-1 down in the second half of the Wycombe game, I thought that whilst of course a Barnet win would be best, a replay would have undoubtedly taken its toll on the squad.

So yes, it is a shame to be out, but no bad thing to avoid a replay and a possible fixture pile up either.

As the manager said on Tuesday, the effect of the cup game on the players was clear. This was especially so against a team who had enjoyed ten days of rest beforehand.

In contrast, Barnet played against a team from the division above and fought most of that game with ten and, briefly, nine men. So I don’t read too much into Tuesday’s result.

As ever I am confident that the Bees can bounce back from adversity as they have done at different times throughout this season. In terms of our league position and points tally, as Martin has said, we’re still doing OK this season!

But also needless to say the Bees cannot afford to lose the intensity and explosive starts that have served them so well so far this season.

And having conceded a last minute equaliser against Saturday’s opposition away from home, Martin Allen’s side will know that they’ll need to keep going right up until the end, especially against a team buoyed by a 2-1 victory in midweek.

It has already been a week that has seen the Bees score three goals, including Bernard Mensah’s first for the club, not to mention consecutive starts for club captain Charlie MacDonald following his return from injury.

However, Saturday is still a chance to end the week on a real high, and a chance for the players to go out and prove why they are still top of the Vanarama Conference, and that they are there on merit.
