BARNET BLOG #9

Two away games on from the last blog and what a delight it is to say that the Bees are still unbeaten, having gained 7 points from a possible 9.

First a hard fought goalless draw at Tamworth, Jake Saville in particular showed the scars of battle coming off injured at half time for Anthony Acheampong, who made his competitive debut for the Bees.

It was perhaps a reminder, if the Bees were in any doubt, that the Skrill Premier is a competitive, physical league in which you have to win the physical battle as well as play football.

Acheampong’s introduction failed to disrupt Barnet’s rhythm at the back and the Bees kept a second clean sheet in as many games at The Lamb.

By all accounts Barnet were the better side, with Weston, Byrne, Johnson, Marsh-Brown, Gambin and Saturday’s match winner Jake Hyde all going close.

A point away from home is rarely a bad result and, given the clean sheet, the Barnet defence will look back on Tuesday night and a point gained with some satisfaction.

Fast forward to Saturday and it was a similar story with the Bees the better side, with the unwelcome first half sucker punch of Gateshead opening the scoring against the run of play.

The Heed’s lead geed up the Bees, with Marsh-Brown, who has had an excellent start to the season, equalising just six minutes later.

On the opening day of the season Jake Hyde was the two  goal hero as the Bees ran out comfortable 3-0 victors.  At Tamworth, Hyde almost grabbed the winner with 5 minutes remaining, but was unlucky to hit the ball over from a Byrne corner.

Fast forward four days and Hyde made no mistake on 88 minutes, volleying the ball home to secure all 3 points in Gateshead.

With Hyde in such excellent form and Crawford and Mengerink both knocking on the door for a first team place, it is perhaps no surprise to see George Sykes and Jamal Lowe head off on short term loan deals to get some first team experience.

All Bees will wish the young duo well during their loan spells.

Of course Barnet fans have had their fair share of trials and all too few tribulations on the road following the Bees in the last few seasons.  B

but with Barnet taking four points from a possible six and the next away game a far more reasonable distance away in Braintree, let’s hope there is a bumper bank holiday crowd to cheer on the Bees in Essex next Monday.

Away days might just be rather happier and rewarding outings for the Bees this term, so here’s to the Bee Army on tour in 2013/14!
