"Straight on to the next one." That was Martin Allen’s message following a narrow 2-1 defeat against Macclesfield on Tuesday.

There certainly seems to be something about wonder goals against Barnet at Moss Rose. Last season they scored a stunner from almost the halfway line whilst this year Scott Barrow struck the ball right into the top corner.

John Akinde, as he did away to Braintree the previous week, headed Barnet’s goal which sadly only proved to be a consolation this time round.

With captain Charlie MacDonald out, it’s been really important that the other strikers chip in with the goals.

Akinde has maintained his fine scoring record whilst Sam Hoskins, after scoring with his first touch for the club against Altrincham, grabbed his

second goal of his Barnet career in Saturday’s win against Eastleigh.

The depth of Barnet’s squad will be key with the games coming thick and fast on both Saturdays and Tuesdays. Away from home Barnet won’t always be playing on the fine surfaces we have come to expect at The Hive.

Fatigue, suspensions and sadly injuries are inevitable and part and parcel of football. At times last season key injuries and suspensions really cost the team, whereas this season as the manager has said there are many players in the squad who can slot right into the system and do an

immediate job.

Up front Hoskins has done really well after joining on loan, whilst elsewhere in attack Cook, Mekki, Gambin, Nurse, Vilhete, Marsh-Brown and Luisma can all come on and make an immediate impact and offer the team something different.

Players like Mauro Vilhete, Curtis Weston and Elliot Johnson can play in midfield as well as defence, which just goes to show the versatility as well as the depth of the squad.

All the players will be needed and called upon in what is a 46 game marathon. Credit to the manager for assembling, not just a starting eleven that is top of the league, but also a strong squad of players that will make us as competitive as possible for the battles ahead.

The next one, then, is Kidderminster Harriers. Always a threat in the Conference and a fellow former Football League club, it will undoubtedly be another tough game at the Hive.

But whichever eleven start on the pitch for the Bees, whilst not being complacent, the league leaders would have to back themselves at home against anyone in this division.
