Aaron McLean signs for Barnet!

Barnet Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Aaron McLean on a short-term contract.

The Hammersmith born-striker has enjoyed a successful playing career to date – having scored 83 goals for Peterborough United, and played in the Premier League with Hull City.

McLean, 32, began his career at Leyton Orient where he played 45 matches.

A loan spell with Grays Athletic yielded three goals in six games, before he moved to Aldershot Town on a permanent basis during the 2002-03 season.

94 games and 26 goals later McLean returned to Grays, scoring a further 28 times at the New Recreation Ground – he won the FA Trophy in 2006 while playing for The Gravelmen.

The well-travelled forward enjoyed further success, following his transfer to Peterborough United the same year.

The Posh won promotions from League Two and League One with McLean up front, until he left to join Hull City after 187 games.

He was the League Two Golden Boot winner in 2007-8, and made the PFA Team of the Year the same season.

Four seasons in the Championship and the Premier League with The Tigers followed, including loan spells with Ipswich Town and Birmingham City.

McLean signed for Bradford City in 2013, and spent the latter part of last season on loan at former club Peterborough United.

Speaking at The Hive, Aaron said:

“I’m buzzing to have joined Barnet and I just can’t wait to get started.

“I’m a London lad, so being back in London is brilliant for me.

“I know a few of the players here already, and then there’s the chance to come and work with Martin Allen.

“He’s different to a lot of managers; I look at the way he manages and I quite admire him.

Aaron went on to describe his playing style, saying:

“I like to work hard, and I try to put myself about in games.

“I like to score goals as well!

“First and foremost I want to come in and put a shift in for the team.

“Hopefully at the end of it I’ll get the goals to get us up the league.”

Everybody at Barnet FC would like to welcome Aaron to the club, and wish him every success at The Hive.
