KEY PERSONNEL
Phil Parkinson played just over 500 games for Reading and Bury between 1988 and 1992.
He began his managerial career at Colchester United in 2003 before enjoying spells in charge of Hull City and Charlton Athletic.
His most successful spell as a manager came at Bradford City when he led the League Two side to the League Cup Final in 2013.
Further spells at Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland followed before he joined Wrexham in July 2021.
DIRECTIONS BY ROAD
To get to Wrexham, leave the M6 at Junction 10a onto the M54. After approximately 21 miles the M54 becomes the A5. At the junction of the A5 and the A483, join it signposted Wrexham.
After approximately eight miles leave the A483 at the junction of the A541 signposted Wrexham and Mold. The ground is well signposted from here.
DIRECTIONS BY TRAIN
Wrexham General Station is adjacent to the ground. The journey from Euston will take between 3 and 4 hours and may include a change at Birmingham, Crewe and/or Chester.
CAR PARKING
Limited parking is available at the ground but street parking will be available.
EAT AND DRINK
Bearing in mind that the first recognised Lager Brewery in Europe was actually founded in Wrexham in 1882, having a beer before the game is very easy.
We are spoilt for choices of pubs in the town although The Turf Bar is right next to the Kop Terrace and is mainly used by home supporters.
The Centenary Bar behind the main stand allows away fans but might not be open due to refurbishment.
A couple of ‘locals’ are The Horse and Jockey and The Golden Lion – both come recommended and can be found towards the town centre.
GROUND DESCRIPTION
Wrexham have played at The Racecourse Ground site with a couple of brief interruptions since 1864.
The magnificent Kop is now disused and is unlikely we will see the like of this size of terrace for very much longer. It could hold around 9,000 at its best.
The Yale Stand holds 4,200 seats and dates back to 1972, whilst the two tiered University Stand behind the goal holds 2,800.
The latest addition is the new Mold Road Stand (3,500 seats) which replaced the quirky collection of stands, terraces and strange wooden houses that used to be there until 1999.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS AND MEMORIES
September 1992 and October 2007 were successful journeys to Wrexham for the Bees. A 3-2 win was blessed with a brace from Gary Bull and another from Mark Carter while Liam Hatch grabbed both goals in a 2-0 win.
CONNECTIONS
Iffy Allen, Kevin Dearden, Nicky Deverdics, Steve Humphries, Jake Hyde, Keanu Marsh-Brown, Izale McLeod, Jason Soloman and Paul Warhurst are players who have represented both clubs.
CELEBRITY WATCH
It is now widely known that the 37th President of the USA Richard M Nixon’s ancestors came from Wrexham. His attempts to keep that information quiet were fruitless and consequently he resigned the Presidency in shame in August 1974.
On another American theme, buried in a Wrexham graveyard is Elihu Yale who is one of the first British settlers across the pond. He founded the world famous Yale University in 1701.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are the co-owners of the Welsh club after taking them over in February 2021. They are both well-known for featuring in big blockbusters films.
