The Bees started brightly, with the first real clear chance falling to Alfie Pavey who was within inches of meeting a delightful cross from new man Alexander McQueen.
The Dartford ‘keeper was called into action 12 minutes into the match, as Trialist A twisted and turned before his strike was well stopped.
We struck the post soon after, as Wes Fonguck’s low driven cross was deflected onto the inside of the upright and bounced to safety for the Darts.
The Darts were next to threaten at Princes Park, as they broke forward quickly after winning the ball in midfield, the ball fell to Romain who forced Loach into a good stop.
Five minutes before the break, the hosts opened the scoring as Romain did well to slot in a Darts Trialist who rounded Loach, before finishing into an empty net.
At the start of the second half, the hosts threatened the Bees goal as Romain struck a powerful effort towards Loach, who did well to parry the strikers effort away to safety.
The Bees should have been level 10 minutes into the second half, as they created two chances in a matter of seconds. Harry Taylor finished a fine move, but his thunderous strike was well blocked by the Darts defence. Then Mason-Clark beat his man, before sending it goalwards only for the crossbar to deny him.
The woodwork came to the Darts rescue for a third-occasion with 15 minutes left on the clock, as Fonguck’s strike at goal beat the keeper but the post denied him.
Despite some late pressure, the hosts stood firm and ensured they were victors at Princes Park. The Bees will now look to take all these pre-season minutes, into a successful opening day against Eastleigh.
