THE RED DRAGONS
League Position: 11th (P5 W2 L3)
Last Result: Solihull Moors 4-0 Wrexham AFC (FA Cup, Saturday 24th Oct)
Manager: Dean Keates
Club Captain: Shaun Pearson
The hosts have had a mixed start to the 2020/21 campaign, having won two of their opening five league matches so far. The Red Dragons won two of their opening three fixtures, starting with an impressive opening day victory over Boreham Wood on home soil before a defeat to Solihull Moors followed the following Tuesday. They won their third match of the season and surprised a few by securing all three points against Yeovil Town at Huish Park. However, since then the Welsh side have seen a downturn in results and performances to boot, they lost at home to Maidenhead United in front of the BT Sport cameras, before conceding four goals to newly-promoted Wrexham as they lost 4-3 to the Stones.
The pressure is mounting on tomorrow’s opponents following a heavy defeat to Solihull Moors in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend. They have now conceded eight goals in their last two matches and the Bees will feel confident that they could take advantage of what look’s to be a shaky Wrexham backline. With the pressure firmly set on our hosts to stop the rot in form, the Bees will want to set the tempo early on and take the game to their Welsh counterparts.
THE BEES
The mood in the camp will be electric following Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup victory over Leiston, as the Bees beat the odds with a severely depleted squad to progress into the First Round Proper. However, attention now turns to National League action as we return to league football for the first time in two weeks, where we secured a 1-0 win over Weymouth thanks to a first-half strike from Wes Fonguck. However, the Bees will still be without several First Team players following the news last week that many squad players are currently self-isolating following positive COVID-19 tests. Peter Beadle also remains out of the dugout as he continues to self isolate because of his positive test result.
After a busy summer with several new players coming in, you get the sense that things are slowly coming together for the Bees, as they look to make it three wins on the spin in all competitions. Saturday’s performance showed that this group that has been assembled over the summer have amazing togetherness and spirit, it would have been easy to let Saturday pass us by, but the Bees perseverance secured them a well-earned victory. If that same fight can be shown tomorrow evening at the Racecourse Ground, then the foundations are once again there for another away day victory.
LAST TIME WE MET:
The last time we travelled to Wrexham, a goal for either side in the opening 10 minutes shaped the result, as we headed home with a solid point in a 1-1.
