Darren Currie looks ahead to Dover Athletic

Dover make the trip to The Hive this Tuesday evening after an impressive start to the season. After three games, they sit on six points having played out two wins and one loss.

The boss is looking forward to welcoming former Barnet man, Hassenthaler, to The Hive on Tuesday.

“They’ve had a positive start themselves and knowing Hess (Hessenthaler) as we do from his time with Barnet, he’ll look forward to bringing his side here.

“There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that they’ll be a hardworking team.

“We’ve looked at their players, we’ve looked at lots of footage and we know they’ve started positively.

“They have some dangerous forwards and attack-minded players and we know what type of game it will be.”

Currie has hailed the positive attitude amongst the group following Saturday’s 2-1 win over Notts County.

On the day, County took the lead through a wonder-strike from Enzio Boldewijn, before Callum Reynolds levelled proceedings with a glanced header.

Simeon Akinola proved the difference between both sides as he dinked over Slocombe to win the game for the Bees.

Currie is hoping his side can take their current form into the Dover match.

He said: “The mood’s been really positive. We’ve had a terrific first week of the season.

“We’ve had a meeting this morning and gone through the positives from the weekend.

“There’s a good energy within the camp and we’re all looking forward to the game tomorrow evening.

After Akinola’s impressive start to the season, Darren has admitted he’ll have somewhat of a selection headache as Shaquile Coulthirst has been training and is on the verge of match fitness.

He said: “Shaq’s getting there. Now he’s training regularly, we believe he’s over his back spasm. He’s looking fresh and lively in training and for him to take that next step he needs to get back into the team.

“At the minute he’s got a fight on his hands because Simeon’s working hard and he’s playing well. He’s scoring goals and has warranted his place in the front-line.”

The boss has also provided a fitness update on the current squad ahead of Tuesday night’s clash.

He said: “At the minute we’ve got Mauro, Sweeney and young Loic Hernandez unavailable. Loic should train at the end of this week, Sweeney’s progressing day by day, as is Mauro. Both are scheduled to be back on the grass with the squad toward the back end of August.

“It’s good because we’ve got healthy competition for the starting 11. We’ve got a good group of players on the bench and in the stands that are frustrated. It will drive them to get back into the team and then you’ve got two really key players who are only a couple of weeks away.”
