Currie “It was a good all round performance”

Josh Walker scored the winning goal in the second half, to give the Bees are much deserved three points as they dominated large stages of the game.

The Magpies came to The Hive with an unbeaten away record and looked to frustrate Currie’s side, but the boss was thrilled to come away with a second win on the spin.

“I thought we deserved it, we could have done more in the final third because 1-0 is always a tricky scoreline. I give a lot of credit to the back four because they put their bodies on the line, flying in front of shots, so they deserve credit for their performance.

I thought it was good all-round performance, but me being me I always want more from the boys”

The Bees had to be patient as the Magpies dropped deep, quashing the threat of the Barnet attack getting in behind and using their pace. The boss was full of praise for his attacking players for plucking away and finding the all-important break through.

“We have spoken about teams coming here with different game plans, some teams come here and choose to sit deep, and try to hit us on the counter. But we have game plans for all scenarios and today we were patient, we moved the ball around well and worked really hard off the ball”

“We spoke at half-time about having a bit more penetration in the final third and it played out well in the second half. I want to be a possession-based team, it involves a lot of unselfish running and movement off the ball. I thought the boys worked really hard”

Currie gave a second debut to Wes Fonguck and the Bees midfielder didn’t disappoint, putting a man of the match performance in. The boss was thrilled with the midfielder’s second homecoming but admits there is more to come from the Bees number 18.

“He was very good today, ran out of steam towards the end but his contribution was very good. He handles the ball really well, he will get us goals and that will come as he gets fitter over the next few weeks.”

Young defender Loic Hernandez also impressed on his Bees debut as he came into the side and played well in the left-back role. Currie hailed the youngster’s performance and was pleased with Hernandez’s work rate.

“In football, the door opens without you knowing, we have one or two full-backs injured currently, so the opportunity presented itself today”

“He can be really proud of his debut today, he did ever so well, he worked hard and I congratulate him for his performance”

The Bees will now look ahead to Tuesday night, as they take on Aldershot at The Hive (19:45 KO). Currie is adamant that his side must continue their fine form and take confidence from back to back wins.

“Winning football matches breeds confidence, our confidence will be better following the back to back wins, but there will be no complacency on Tuesday night.

“We have to approach the game very focused, it will be a difficult game, we have to impose ourselves on Aldershot and keep this little run of form going”
