In a frantic opening 20 minutes, the Bees came from two goals down to level the match at the Shay Stadium thanks to two wonderful strikes from Simeon Akinola and Charlee Adams.
However, the second half was a different story and the hosts made their pressure count as Nolan and Sho-Silva condemned the Bees to their second defeat of the season.
Currie felt that despite getting back into the game, the performance of his side was not up to the standard he expects.
“We lacked a bit of fight and organisation today, we earnt ourselves an opportunity to get back into the game with two decent strikes but we didn’t defend well enough as a team.”
“I don’t think many walk off the pitch with much credit today, but at 2-2 we had opportunities that we should have scored and it could have been a different game. But we were comfortably the second-best team today and didn’t deserve anything out the game”
Sho-Silva tapped home after 11 minutes, in controversial circumstances as the Bees backline felt the linesman had put the flag up. However, the goal stood and just four minutes later Currie’s side were two behind as McAlinden slotted home to punish a lapse in concentration.
The boss felt that there were no excuses for the manner of the goals his team conceded and felt that they were punished for switching off.
“We should not have switched off, it really is schoolboy stuff. We can’t do that, it is disappointing and there is no getting past that but we were second best today”
“We are away from home, you have to be organised and stay in the game, frustrate the home team, but we didn’t. I felt it was all just a bit one-paced today, so it is frustrating”
“The second-half performance was quite simply not good enough and that is what has costed us today”
The Bees now travel to Ebbsfleet on Tuesday night looking to respond to the frustration of yesterday’s result.
Currie is demanding that his side put the result behind them and respond on Tuesday evening.
“We have to react, it will be a test of character in how we respond because we have only tasted defeat once this season.
“We responded well last time and the players have to raise their game and be better than they were today there is no doubt about that.
“I said Tuesday about picking up points when you are not at your best, we weren’t at our best today and picked up no points which are what we deserved.”
One key positive from the afternoon was the return of Mauro Vilhete following a period out injured, as he made a substitute appearance at The Shay. Currie was keen to highlight how key the tricky winger can be for the Bees.
“It is pleasing and it is ahead of schedule, he will be big for us. That is a plus, there is no doubt about it, it is one of few pluses I can take from the game.”
