“Walking football means everything to me.”

Peter was nominated for all his hard work in helping the Hive Foundation get their walking football sessions up and running.
This week he was presented with a club pennant and goal keeping gloves by first team shot stopper Jamie Stephens.
Gushing about his experience with the walking team Peter said:
“Walking football means everything to me. It’s all us elderly people together who thought our playing days were over. We’ve discovered a new life.”
“I get a warm feeling inside seeing everyone enjoying themselves. We have a wonderful group here. It’s friendly and brilliant. It really is.”

The Foundation has now been running walking football for over a year, with men and women over 50 meeting every Thursday 7-8pm and every Friday 2-3pm.

The sessions cost £3 and run on the clubs astro pitches here at The Hive.
Bees keeper Jamie Stephens spoke highly of the programmes impact:
“It’s great for these guys. This is what it’s all about. Getting together and just playing. Good for them – show’s you’re never too old to play football.”

The walking team compete in friendly matches against other clubs on a regular basis, with all sessions light hearted, non-contact and great fun.

If you’re interested in playing, just turn up in your trainers and tracksuit, or contact Connor Lynch on clynch@thehivelondon.com for more information.
