Shaun Batt: “I thought the fans were amazing”

Bees striker Shaun Batt has paid tribute to Barnet’s supporters, praising them for their backing during Saturday’s derby clash with Stevenage.

The forward was full of admiration for the travelling fans, saying:

“I thought the fans were amazing throughout the game.

“From the first minute they were loud and in full voice.

“I could hear them singing, chanting and cheering us on – the following was really great.”

Shaun went on to reflect on the match:

“I think it’s a very valuable point for us,” he said.

“We all know that we needed to improve our away form.

“We’ve got a great record at home, and today was a step towards improving our away record.

“I’m proud of the boys, and it’s another clean sheet which is a positive.

“What we now need to improve on is down the other end.

“That’s down to me and the attacking players – we need to start scoring more goals, and maybe creating more chances.

“That’s something that we can work on over the next couple of weeks.

“We’re a fair bit above the drop zone at the moment, although you’re never safe.

“But we’re more interested in looking up the table and trying to climb as high as possible.”

The striker was also positive about his own contribution, saying:

“I’m happy with my own performance.

“I feel like I’m building up every game now – getting stronger, getting fitter, and getting sharper.

“It was a personal bonus for me to get through another 90 minutes too.

“I’d like to have maybe got a few more chances, but it was a local derby and we knew it was going to be a scrappy game.

“I’m probably in the best shape that I’ve been in for years at the moment.

“I’m really pleased with how I’ve done over the last couple of weeks, but there’s a lot more that I can do.

“I’m looking forward to the next match, when hopefully I’ll be that little bit sharper.

“I knew that it was going to be a hard game up top on my own.

“I knew that I’d have to battle and fight, and probably be quite lonely at times up there.

“I had to chase and run myself into the ground, and that’s what I did.

“I’m very grateful that we came away with a valuable point.”
