Barnet: The Bees are buzzing following their 3-1 victory over York City at the weekend. An impressive performance saw Barnet rise to 19th in the table, thanks to goals from John Akinde, Michael Gash and Josh Clarke. Martin Allen’s side will be looking to turn their good home form (four wins and a draw in seven matches) into more points on the road. The Bees are yet to taste victory away from home in the league, but have been unfortunate not to get something from a number of away matches this campaign.

Martin’s View: “I think that what we’ve seen so far, from day one, is that every game is a hard game. Ronnie Moore did a remarkable job last year keeping Hartlepool up. I really like Ronnie, he’s a nice guy. He says it how it is and I’m looking forward to meeting up with him tomorrow night. But more than anything I just want our team to go up there, play well, do their jobs, get at it and get on it.”

Hartlepool United: Hartlepool secured a vital win against struggling Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday. Their 1-0 victory at Victoria Road was only their second since mid-August, and arrested a run of three straight defeats in League Two. Barnet’s opposition on Tuesday have lost seven of their last ten games, but remain in 17th thanks to some good early season form.

In The Dugout: Ronnie Moore is a well-travelled manager with a history of success in the dugout. His most notable achievements probably came during the former striker’s time in charge of Rotherham United. Moore won promotion to Division Two (now League One) with The Millers in 1998, before sealing a further promotion to the second tier just a year later. The Liverpool-born manager took over Hartlepool in December last season. United looked a good bet for relegation, and were ten points adrift at the bottom of the table. However Moore masterminded a ‘great escape’, winning four matches in a row to avoid the drop. 

Dangerman: Billy Paynter has scored six times already this season – the 31-year-old striker now has over 100 goals to date. Paynter began his career at Port Vale, where he struck 34 times in 158 matches and won the club’s Player of the Year award in 2005. His most productive spells came at Swindon Town (2007-10) where he scored 51 goals, and at Doncaster Rovers where he won the League One title in 2013.

Last Meeting: Barnet haven’t played Hartlepool since April 2007. The Bees beat United 2-1 at Underhill, in front of just under 3000 fans. Paul Fairclough was in his third full campaign as manager, in a season where Barnet finished 14th. Adam Birchall’s opener was cancelled out by an Eifion Williams equaliser on 77 minutes, before Jason Puncheon struck the winner with just nine minutes left on the clock. The defeat proved to be of little consequence to Hartlepool, who finished second and won promotion to League One.
