The winners of Barnet versus Chelmsford in Tuesday’s FA Cup replay will be rewarded with a home tie against Wycombe Wanderers in the first round.
Wycombe currently sit second in League Two, one point behind Luton Town at top, following an excellent start to the season that has seen them lose just two of their first fifteen games. This comes after the Chairboys only avoided relegation to the Conference in April on goal difference following a dramatic escape that saw them leapfrog Bristol Rovers on the final day.
The Bees have already come up against Gareth Ainsworth’s team recently when the two sides met in their final pre-season friendly of the summer at The Hive, in a game that was decided by a 35-yard thunderbolt from Peter Murphy in a narrow 1-0 win for the visitors.
Wycombe famously reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2000/01, whilst they also played Barnet in the second round of the competition back in 1996/97 when a 3-2 replay win was enough to see them through following a dramatic 3-3 draw at Underhill.
Should Barnet prevail over Chelmsford City, the first round tie will be played on the weekend of the 8th/9th November.
