Barnet FC returned to the top of their Football League Youth Alliance division on Saturday with another dramatic late win, this time over AFC Wimbledon.

The Bees took an early lead at The Hive, when Shane Cojocarel nodded in a deflected ball from Harry Taylor’s cut back following good work by Mathew Stevens in the build-up.

They then doubled their lead moments before the break thanks to a sensational solo goal by Nana Kyei, who received the ball on the edge of the box from Keir Dickson before expertly executing a Cruyff turn to beat two players and slot home.

The visitors pulled a goal back midway through the second half with a back post header from a corner, before levelling the scores with ten minutes remaining after a deflected shot rolled across the face of goal to be tapped in.

However, in much the same way as the first team did at Welling, the Bees dug deep to find an injury-time winner. Carlito Lawton was the match winner, rifling in a first-time shot with his left foot from the edge of the box to secure another late win for the Youth Team.

The result means that the U18s return to the top of the table, with a one point lead over Peterborough United who have a game in hand to be played against Barnet’s next opponents in the league, third-placed Luton Town.

Next up for the Bees is a return to FA Youth Cup action, with a first-round tie against Metropolitan Police to be played on the first team pitch under floodlights at The Hive, with admission just £5 for adults and £2 for concessions, with all Barnet FC members enjoying free entry.
