Assistant head coach Ulrich Landvreugd admitted Barnet paid the price for a poor opening five minutes but was pleased with their overall performance against Burton Albion.

Landvreugd took charge of Bees, who were without Edgar Davids due to illness, but they went behind after just two minutes as Jacques Maghoma converted from the sport. 

Andy Iro, Ibra Sekajja and Harry Crawford all came close to pegging back the Brewers but they were unable to prevent falling to their fist away defeat since December 15.

"Edgar had a virus and he was not well enough to travel.

"I spoke to him on the telephone throughout the day on how we were going to play, right up to five minutes before the game.

"I’m disappointed with the result because we played quite well, except for the first five minutes of the game.

Jake Hyde also missed out but could return on Friday to face Bristol Rovers where Landvreugd is hoping the Bees can demonstrate a far more clinical side of their game.

"We knew how Burton would play, with the long ball to the striker and everyone working around him, we trained on that but that was what got them the goal.

"We had a few chances but generally the final ball into the box was disappointing after some good build-up play and we didn’t give the goalkeeper a lot of pressure.”

Landvreugd continued by outlining his hopes for new signing Crawford who joined the club last week from Dartford FC.
