When the team was announced for last night’s match the general consensus was that given the number of changes that had been made to the starting line-up the Bees would struggle against Fleetwood.

But this was not a display of a patchwork team, one cobbled together at the last minute; rather we saw a very good team performance.

Despite the six changes the team gelled together almost from the first minute and recorded a thoroughly deserved 2-0 victory.

So comprehensive in fact that the Cod Army boss Graham Alexander kept his players in the dressing room for over an hour after the match for a “de-briefing.”

When they eventually emerged they looked visibly shocked and slunk away into the night to begin the long and winding road north.

As the game approached its conclusion Barnet Player’s Karl Bates asked me who I thought was the Bees’ Man of the Match. This was a good question primarily because not one Barnet player was head and shoulders above the rest; rather this was a very solid team display.

And perhaps it is displays like these that are needed to produce victories. If you have a number of players below par it is asking a lot for the others to carry the team through.

Tom Flanagan settled in very well as the latest partner in central defence for David Stephens. In the opening minutes they both went for the same header, but after that they quickly developed an understanding and formed a sound barrier.

And all of a sudden the first thirty minutes at Accrington seemed a long time ago, although for AFC Wimbledon they will need to wait at least until Saturday to attempt to exorcise this particular demon.
