Another positive Barnet performance was somewhat overshadowed as MK Dons struck three times late on to secure a 1-4 win at The Hive. 

Jake Hyde put the bees in front on 63 minutes with a superb solo effort but former Barnet man Izale McLeod got the away side back on level terms just three minutes later. 

The home side responded well but with eight minutes remaining McLeod got his second before Mauro Vilhete put into his own net and Patrick Bamford fired past Graham Stack.  

Just like they did against Ipswich Town the Bees made a bright start to the game with Luke Gambin almost getting in behind the Dons’ defence after four minutes.

Three minutes later the away side had their first chance of the afternoon when Shaun Williams’ teasing corner swung through the six-yard box and away to safety with nobody able to make contact.

The Bees continued to apply pressure in the opening stages forcing successive corners but unfortunately their persistence went unrewarded.

A Darren Potter shot went well wide soon after but both sides soon began to struggle in the searing heat and midway through the half play was stopped altogether for a drinks break.

With four minutes of the half remaining Gambin played Hyde through on goal with only the keeper to beat but the linesman raised his flag.

Keanu Marsh-Brown also had a half-chance before the break but he shot wide after Jason Banton saw his fine run and shot deflect behind off a teammate. 

The second-half started just like the first with the Bees beginning on the front foot. 

That said the first chance of the half fell to the away side when Lee Hodson fired the ball low at the near post where he was denied by Stack.

The Bees keeper came to the rescue once more denying Lewington from range before Gambin saw his testing cross put behind for a corner. 

With 63 minutes on the clock Hyde got his second goal in successive matches when he curled the ball past David Martin.

The lead didn’t last long however as substitute and former Barnet favourite McLeod looped a header over Stack to level after good work from former Manchester United midfielder Alan Smith.  

Marsh-Brown could have given the Bees the lead for a second time but his low shot skimmed past the post before McLeod took centre stage once more to chest the ball down and smash it home. 

Jut two minutes later McLeod should have grabbed his third but he was unable to connect from two-yards and the ball deflected onto the helpless Mauro Vilhete and into the net.

One minute later the Dons grabbed their third in four minutes as Chelsea Loanee Bamford raced past the Barnet defence and smashed the ball into the bottom corner.

The result doesn’t tell the whole story of a match which Barnet largely dominated and many positives will be taken by the Bees as they enter the final stages of pre-season.
