Jake Hyde described Barnet’s start to the season as ‘fantastic’ after the Bees secured a 3-0 win over Chester on Saturday.
The forward scored two goals on Saturday and he stated that although he hasn’t set a target for goals he will score as many as he can to help the Bees stay at the top of the Skrill Premier table.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Tamworth Hyde admitted that you can’t ask for much more that the Bees got on Saturday.
“It was a fantastic start to the season. The most important thing about the day was getting three points on the board and three points in our new stadium.
“You can’t ask for much more than a 3-0 win and a clean sheet so all the boys are very pleased and we go again on Tuesday against Tamworth.”
Luke Gambin opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the second-half with Hyde scoring two soon after and the forward praised his team-mates for supplying two impressive assists.
“It was two ‘strikers’ goals. It was fantastic ball from Mark Byrne for the first one, he did very well to get the ball in and I managed to get in front of my man.
“For the second one it was another lovely pass from Luisma Villa who added a bit of flavour into the team, he slipped me in nicely and I managed to score one on one.”
The opening period was a tense one with Chester constantly pressing the Bees but Hyde stated that it is simply something the Bees will deal with and overcome.
“I think we have got to expect that at times [Teams playing physical football] in this league because it is more physical in the Football League and it can be a bit of a battle at times.
“Teams will cone to The Hive and rough it up but as long as we’re prepared for the physical battle I think our ability and class will shine through on the pitch.”
Hyde also believes that once the Bees open the scoring their opponents will find it very difficult to pull it back due to their passing style of play.
“We’re a passing team so once we get the first goal we can move it faster and exploit the space to get two or three.
“We also have to focus on helping out the back four to make sure we keep clean sheets, if we do that we will go very far this year.”
Ten of Edgar Davids’ starting line-up were at the club last year and Hyde believes this will provide massive benefits throughout the course of the season.
“We are very lucky to have kept the majority of our squad together from last season because towards the back end I felt we were one of the strongest teams.
“We have only strengthened it in the summer. We have players like Luisma who can change a game coming off the bench and all the boys who started were fantastic.”
He added: “The most important thing this season is that the team stay near the top of the table, if I can help that in anyway with goals then I will do all I can. Hopefully it is going to be a very promising year.
