Grimsby Town Match Preview

Introduction
• Barnet travel to Grimsby Town on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Skrill Premier to eight matches.
• Barnet’s last defeat was on 24th September when they were beaten 1-2 at The Hive by Macclesfield Town.
• Last time out the Bees were denied a last minute victory over league-leaders Cambridge United with George Sykes’ close-range finish being chalked off as the linesman deemed the ball to have gone out of play. 
• Grimsby Town are currently unbeaten in six matches in all competitions winning their last match 1-2 away at Sky Bet League Two side Scunthorpe United in the FA Cup. 
• A win over Grimsby would see the Bees move level on points with their opponents who currently sit fourth in the Skrill Premier
• Jake Hyde, Dani Lopez and Luke Gambin all miss out due to injury. Keanu Marsh-Brown is also unavailable due to suspension. 
• Grimsby were relegated to the Conference Premier in 2010 after Barnet beat already-promoted Rochdale 1-0 to ensure their safety.

• Jake Hyde is moving ever-closer to a return but like Dani Lopez he will not be available for Saturday’s match.
• Keanu Marsh-Brown will also be unavailable as he misses a final match through suspension. Fellow winger Luke Gambin is also unavailable due to injury.

• Grimsby Town formed in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham, they have played their home matches at Blundell Park since 1898. 
• The Mariners are the only club from Lincolnshire to ever play top flight football.
• The club have also reached the FA Cup semi-final stage on two occasions in 1935/36 and 1938/39. 
• More clubs have lost their managers after meeting Grimsby than any other club. This stat was further enhanced on Wednesday when Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws was dismissed by the League Two club following their cup exit to the Mariners. 
• The club’s top goalscorer is Pat Glover who scored 180 league goals in total, 42 of which came in the same season in 1933/34.
• The club’s record appearance maker is John McDermott who played for the Mariners 754 times between 1987 and 2007.
• The highest transfer fee Grimsby have ever received for a player was for former Bee John Oster who joined Everton in 1997 for £1.5 million.
• Notable managers include Bill Shankly, who went on to guide Liverpool to three league titles, two FA Cups and one UEFA Cup and Lawrie McMenemy who went on to win the FA Cup with Southampton in 1976.
• The club’s most successful manager is Alan Buckley who had three spells as manager between 1988 and 2008. He guided the club to three promotions and two appearances at Wembley Stadium for the FA Trophy and Second Division Play-Off Final.
Current Manager 
• Grimsby Town are currently managed by Paul Hurst.
• Hurst made 438 league appearances for Rotherham United between 1993 and 2008. He spent the entire duration of his career with Rotherham bar a brief loan spell with Burton Albion in 2008.
• During his time with Rotherham he won the FA Trophy and was promoted twice, both as a runner-up, from Division Three and Division Two. 
• Following his retirement Hurst became joint-manager of Ilkeston Town with former team mate Rob Scott.  
• The duo moved to Boston United after one year with Ilkeston spending two-years at York Street before moving to Grimsby Town. Scott left the club in 2013 with Hurst taking sole control of the team.

Grimsby Town kept sealed a 2-0 win over relegation rivals Barnet to preserve their 100-year Football League history for at least one-week. Town took the lead midway through the first-half when captain Rob Atkinson hooked a volley beyond Cole before Mark Hudson drove in the decisive goal in the third minute of injury time. Victory for Grimsby over Burton Albion coupled with a Barnet loss to already promoted Rochdale would see them escape the drop to complete a remarkable escape.
