MATCH REPORT | SHREWSBURY TOWN 0-0 BARNET FC

The Bees were made to settle for a point in a goalless draw at Croud Meadow against a Sallop side under new leadership.

Despite dominating from minute one to ninety, Barnet were unable to find the back of the net on their travels to Shropshire.

Dean Brennan made two changes to the side that beat Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night. Nik Tavares returned from suspension and Anthony Hartigan captained the side. Philip Chinedu and Rhys Browne both took their places on the bench, which was without Kane Smith.

The Bees were awarded a free-kick in inside two minutes of kick-off when Idris Kanu was brought down in the final third, but Anthony Hartigan’s delivery from the left-hand side was headed away.

The first corner of the afternoon came on five minutes after Adam Senior delivered a ball into the area, only  for it to be cleared out by a Sallop Shirt.

Nnamdi Ofoborh had the first effort on target of the afternoon after Ryan Glover saw him unmarked inside the area, but with no power on the shot, it was in the hands of Shrewsbury shot-stopper Matthew Cox.

Another Hartigan corner was whipped in shortly after, but Joe Kizzi couldn’t guide his header on target.

Ofoborh sent another shot towards the hands of Cox, but again it was tame and didn’t trouble the Sallop number one.

The closest chance of the half for Barnet came just before the 30-minute mark, when Ofoborh played the ball into Glover on the turn. Our number 15 sent his effort goalwards, but was unable to pick a corner and instead the shot was straight at Cox.

The Bees emerged from the break showing intensity following the restart, with Glover’s pace causing trouble for the Sallop defence down the right-hand side.

The ball left the feet of Kanu and found Kabongo Tshimanga in box as Barnet pushed forward, but before he could turn and get his shot away, the linesman’s flag was up for offside.

A double change from Dean Brennan came just after the hour mark, with Diallang Jaiyesimi and Rhys Browne coming on in place of Senior and Ofoborh.

Some patient play around the Shrewsbury box between Kanu and Browne saw the ball eventually fall to Collinge positioned in the right of the area, but our number four frustratingly sent his effort into the side netting.

As the game headed into the final 20 minutes, the best chance of the second 45 fell for the Bees when Collinge played the ball into the path of Browne who was completely unmarked and had time to think about his shot, but he sent it over the bar.

The hosts enjoyed a short period of sustained pressured in the closing stages, but none of their entries into the box were enough to test Cieran Slicker who would soon go on to get clean sheet number 11 of the campaign.

A late switch saw Britt Assombalonga replace Glover as the Bees pushed until the referee’s final whistle, but it wasn’t meant to be and Dean Brennan’s side headed back to London with only a point to add to the board.
