Barnet FC are pleased to announce that the club have taken up the two-year option in Mauro Vilhete’s contract.
The versatile youngster made 31 appearances last season scoring four goals including a last minute winner against Southport at The Hive.
His transition from winger to defender was impeccable and it led to him being voted as the club’s Young Player of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year for the 2013/14 season.
Speaking to BarnetFC.com, Martin Allen explained his reasons for wanting to keep the 20-year-old at the club.
“I had a meeting with Mauro Vilhete today to inform him that we are taking up the option in his contract.
“Three things have been significant in helping me make my decision.
“One, Mauro is versatile and can play in several different positions and with a small squad of players adaptability will be vital.
“Two, he was voted as most improved player and for a young player this could not be any better. It is significant and shows a willingness and desire to get better and improve, I like this.
“Three, he is a terrific, well mannered, polite young man.
“I really do hope next year he is flourishes and continues to improve and develop.”
