Martin: “I have total confidence in these players”

Martin Allen says that he is sleeping easy as his Barnet side head into the closing stages of the season looking to maintain their lead at the top of the Vanarama Conference table.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wrexham the manager revealed that he has got a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of what promises to be a tough encounter against Kevin Wilkin’s side:

“All of the players are fine. They are just looking to get on the road again and get up there and get ready for Saturday’s game.

“Wrexham have just won 1-0 away at Halifax and were 1-0 up at the Britannia Stadium against Stoke City so they have definitely got something about them.

“They have got some good players and they beat us here, so they must be good.”

And with just thirteen games of the season left to play Martin says that he is looking forward to the final few months of the season as Barnet look to maintain the position at the top of league that they have held since August:

“It is a long competition that goes on for a long, long time but we are starting to get towards the end of it now and we are in a good place.

“Of course when you get to this stretch when you are top of the league every game is a cup final as everyone knows that they are playing against the best team in the league.

“I had it a couple of years ago at Gillingham and it is just about doing enough to win the games. There are going to be nerves and there is going to be anxiety but I don’t really feel that way.

“I have total confidence in these players. They have worked so hard on the training pitch and I am so proud of them the way that they just keeping rolling forward and moving forward.

“And in this ten-month competition, that is just what you have to do. It isn’t always pretty on the eye and it isn’t always great for the supporters but we have got quality players in our team so I can sleep well and I can look forward to the thirteen games to go.”
