Martin: “I am here to help them”

Martin Allen admitted that his side came up short on Saturday, as Barnet went down 3-1 to Grimsby Town at Blundell Park in front of the BT Sport cameras.

Speaking after the game, the Barnet manager said:

“It was not a good performance from us. It must be said, Grimsby played well. They had high energy, they have got good players and they were in the play-offs last year.

“We’ve had two away games now against two good teams where it must be said we have come up short from what we need. It was a disappointing performance and a disappointing result.”

However, Martin insisted that now is not the time to panic after the Bees lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, and promised to work with the players to help them get back to top form:

“I won’t panic. It’s certainly not a panic. The more important thing is to look at our performances, talk to the players and listen to what the players have got to say. Obviously the players go over the white line and I am here to help them.

“These players are good players and they need my help now. Our players now need support, they need to be looked after and it is a testing time for all of us. They don’t become bad players overnight or a bad team overnight. At the moment we are just a little bit below our best.

“We have seen through the season we can mix it. The self belief has perhaps been questioned but that is up to the staff and I to work together and get that mojo back and get our players back up onto top form.”

Barnet’s next game sees them play at The Hive for the first time in three weeks against Southport, but Martin insisted that he would not be treating the game any differently as the Bees look to get back to winning ways:

“Every game we play is a big game, for our supporters, our players and myself. We have tried to just get on with what we do and try and make good performances throughout the season and that is what we have done.

“For a couple of matches it hasn’t been as good as what it could be and that is something that we need to try and improve.”
