Despite being forced to miss the remainder of the 2012/13 season Ricky Holmes has been living every moment of the drama on the touchline.

The winger was at Underhill on Saturday as the Bees edged out a 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers in thrilling circumstances.

The match was of course the last ever to take place at Barnet’s home of 106-years and according to Holmes the Bees’ superb support played and will continue to play a massive role in their quest for survival.

"In the past two years we had to win in our last home game to stay up and we had to win on Saturday to give ourselves a chance this season.

"The crowd were great on Saturday and it really does give you a lift out there. We always give 100% but to play in front of 6,000 people gives you a real buzz, it really is like having a 12th man."

The Bees head into Saturday’s match against Northampton with their Football League future unsure, but Holmes revealed that his best Underhill memories come from those final match survival scraps.

"I don’t have one best memory from Underhill – I have two – and that is staying up on the last day twice. To be part of that was fantastic. 

"To simply stay up is an underachievement but to do it on the last day makes it feel like much more. It felt like a promotion. You get character from games like that and it really helps you going forward."

The 25-year-old also believes that Barnet cannot play for a point next weekend and insists that it will take all three points to survive.

"We can’t play for a draw and we have to go for the win. We had two wingers in the team on Saturday and it helped because in my opinion we have missed that in the last few games.

"I was surprised by John Oster not starting on Saturday but the manager made the decision and you cannot argue with it because we won the game."

When someone mentions Underhill they usually talk about the slope, it has divided opinion for many years but Holmes is very much a fan.

"I love playing on the slope and to me it really is an advantage because you get used to playing on it every week. 

"As a winger the defenders have no chance when you are running down the hill. I love playing there but the new stadium looks fantastic and hopefully the fans can fill that too."

He continued: "We will attract top quality players with the facilities we have. We have added a lot of players over the course of the season who have improved the team, if we get those players in at the start of the season we can have a really good go at it.

"I’m sure Barnet can achieve great things with the fantastic support they have coupled with a chairman who really cares about the club."
