Barnet Blog #13

With ten games to go in the Vanarama Conference it is coming up to the business end of the season at both ends of the table.

As the games come thick and fast there will be plenty of clubs fighting for points for one reason or another, starting of course with Forest Green Rovers’ trip to the Hive as they seek to consolidate their position in the play-off places.

A last minute winner by Bondz N’Gala saw the Bees run out 2-1 winners in September, sparking terrific scenes at the end of the game as Barnet grabbed the three points at the death.  No doubt the home game will be equally hard fought, but hopefully with the same result!

I really like this time of the season. Firstly, it is not quite so cold meaning that the trips to The Hive (and up north!) become a bit more manageable in slightly milder conditions.  Although, I have to say that since we moved to The Hive the Orange Bar has been a lifesaver on some on the colder December and January days!

It is also around this time of year that you get the glut of Easter fixtures which, along with the Christmas and New Year games, is one of the highlights of the season.

Finally, it is also my birthday this month, and who can forget Dani Lopez scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory against Morecambe two years ago whilst I was celebrating in the Director’s Lounge at the Underhill with my mates? Not me, anyway!

So for a number of reasons I will be looking forward to our fixtures this month and with games against some of the teams around the play-off places to come, they should be great matches to watch.

I also have to mention Michael Gash, who of course got his first two goals for the club against Altrincham last weekend.  We have got a hungry set of strikers up front, who are all keen to put themselves about and get on the score sheet.

With MacDonald, Akinde and Gash you feel that any one of those forwards could grab a game by the scruff of the neck, get a few goals and win the game for the Bees – starting on Saturday with Forest Green Rovers with any luck!  Come on you Bees!
