News | Martin Allen addresses supporters prior to the final game of the season

Good morning to all our supporters,

Firstly, I’d like to thank all those people that made that long journey up to Morecambe on Saturday. It was amazing to come out of the tunnel, to hear so much noise and positive energy coming from all our family.

Secondly, and sadly, Simeon Akinola has ruptured his Achilles tendon and will soon, hopefully, be having an operation to repair it. Up to that point in that game, he was quite outstanding with his pace, trickery and positive attitude. He’s a very good player and I am grateful for the good work he has done for all of us.

Next, for this coming Saturday, as I understand it, the stand as I look out to the right is going to be opened for us, which is good news. I’ve been very impressed with the tribal group behind the goal who have sung their hearts out and embraced the efforts of the players. The players have mentioned it and we are all really grateful for your backing.

The stand opposite me has certainly found its feet after the move and the atmosphere when you all sing from where I stand is tremendous. Your performance is crucial. It is no good for any of us to be happy just because we stayed in it until the last game, you still have work to do.

As for the stand to my right and the people going in there, it is no good getting a seat in there and acting like a bus load of tourists in Trafalgar Square, taking selfies, talking about the lovely view and the comfortable seats. You are there and you are in there to do a job and together, all of us will help our players achieve what we set out to do six weeks ago.

After the game, please stay off the pitch and the players and staff will all, after just a few minutes, come back out onto the field to thank you all for your support and backing for the whole season.

I look forward to coming out at five to three on Saturday afternoon to watch our team play. Trust me, they will put in their best performance and do us all proud.

Martin
