Rossi Eames is targeting a fast start against Mansfield Town on Saturday and says the key to Barnet achieving that is meeting the same expectations throughout the week.
Eames and Henry Newman were pleased with the way their side started at Carlisle United last weekend and are hoping for a repeat at The Hive London on Saturday.
“We have spoken about it and preached it in training,” Eames said. “They have to start well in training and if you don’t get that consistency you won’t get that consistency on a Saturday afternoon or a Tuesday night.
“It’s about coming in with the right mindset in the gym, on the pitch or doing anything around the training ground. The more they do it the more you’ll see it on Saturdays.”
The pair have been pleased with the way the Bees squad have taken their ideas on board in the last two months.
“They’ve been fantastic,” said Eames. “The message we’ve given the players has been very simple; it’s about being brave and them wanting the ball.
“We want to attack with a balance and structure. They have been excellent since day one, the mentality is very good and you can see they’re very capable of playing.”
The only thing which has been missing in the last couple of games is goals. The Bees carved out numerous opportunities at Brunton Park last Saturday before and after going down to ten men.
Newman is confident that profligacy in front of goal will be banished against Steve Evans’ side.
He said: “[We’ve worked on being more ruthless] in amongst a number of things.
“Rossi and I like to implement a free-flowing attacking style of football and that’s the thing all the players have taken aboard best and found the most enjoyable – as any footballer does. We’ve had 42 shots on goal in our last two games.
“This weekend we expect many more shots on goal and many more goals!”
