Interim assistant manager Henry Newman has revealed Tom Champion was withdrawn as a precaution during Barnet’s 1-0 win at Yeovil Town on Saturday.
The midfield anchorman made way on the hour mark to be replaced by Alex Nicholls. The change, although forced by a minor injury concern at the team, proved inspired as Nicholls bagged the winner at Huish Park.
Speaking on Monday evening, Newman said: “He just picked up a little bit of a knock. Tom had been outstanding for 60 minutes but we didn’t want to risk him.
“There’s a balance between risk and reward; the reward of having him of play through 90 minutes with the potential risk of worsening an injury we didn’t know an awful lot about.
“He’s been in and we’ll assess him over the next couple of days but we don’t expect it to be anything too serious.”
There was also good news on Harry Taylor who has missed the Bees’ last two after picking up a knock at Plymouth Argyle.
“He was on the grass today which was really pleasing to see, doing some running with Luigi Cerullo,” revealed Newman. “Hopefully that will progress quickly and we’ll get him back training with the first team as quickly as possible.
“His exact timescale we’re not sure of but he came through unscathed today.”
